My two cents for the index entry dialog: "Reading" is well-understood jargon in Japanese language studies, based on the literal translation of the equivalent Japanese term, but I'm not sure it would be easily understood by users of other languages with phonetic ordering schemes. Personally, I don't find the existing term difficult to understand. Even if the term is uncommon, I would expect interested users to get the gist based on either "phonetic" (注音) or "reading" (読み).
