            Bug ID: 170872
Summary: Improving language switching and AutoCorrect behavior
                    in multilingual documents
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: LibreOffice
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
frequently write academic texts either in German or in English, and often
within the same document I include quotations in the other language. In
practice, this requires reliable switching between language-specific settings
such as AutoCorrect options and typographical quotation marks.

Currently, the relationship between document language, paragraph/character
style language, locale settings, and AutoCorrect language is difficult to
understand and manage. Changing the language for the entire text does not
always affect AutoCorrect behavior in a predictable way. In particular,
switching between German and English quotation mark conventions can require
multiple adjustments in different configuration areas.

This creates recurring friction in multilingual workflows:

The active AutoCorrect language is not always clearly visible.

Language changes at document level do not consistently propagate to
AutoCorrect.

Quotations in a secondary language within a primary-language document require
manual intervention.

It is unclear which setting (document default, style language, locale, or UI
language) currently controls typographical quotation marks.

For users who regularly work in multilingual academic contexts, this
significantly interrupts writing flow.

Suggested improvement:

Clear visual indication of the currently active AutoCorrect language.

More transparent coupling between text language and typographical conventions.

Easier switching between language schemes at document level.

Option to define document-wide quotation mark conventions independent of UI
locale.

LibreOffice already offers powerful multilingual support, but the current UX
makes this functionality harder to access than necessary.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Try to change language of the document
2.
3.

Actual Results:
language doesn't change and I can't select the language selected from the auto
correct menu

Expected Results:
language would change

Reproducible: Always
