I would not agree with that "workaround". The flexibility of spreadsheets is
its most important factor. Users tend to develop spreadsheets in ways that you
probably don't foresee.

You might think that a cell with a validity list is just one simple cell with
data, and that there should be no reason to "autofill" adjacent cells with
similar content. Active users of spreadsheets might disagree.

We don't really know the chances that a user would click "exactly" where the
problem is triggered, but we also do not know the chances that a user would
want to use the fill handle on a cell that has a validity list.

I happen to have spreadsheets in which a validity list is part of a table of
data (so the cell with the validity list is repeated row after row). I also
extend the table by using the fill handle. Just by coincidence, the right-most
column of the data is not a validity list, so I don't encounter this
_potential_ behavior in my case. But that is just a coincidence; the right-most
column could had contained a validity list, and if that "workaround" would be
accepted I would not be able to extend the table by using the fill handle.
