That is Autocorrection at work. Open Tools -> Autocorrect Options dialog, and
on the 'Replace' tab scroll down through all the emoji and into the string
replacements.  Look for a stanza 'i' --> 'I' either delete it, or edit it.

And for a table cell in Writer, you would also need to toggle the 'Options' tab
for 'Capitalize the first letter of every sentence' since technically when you
put just alpha chars into a table cell they are text.
