Problem solved for now.
I have a linux 64 bit box and needed to install Skype today. That also failed.
Following a google I found a site which suggested I run

sudo yum -y install libXv.i686 libXScrnSaver.i686 qt.i686 qt-x11.i686
pulseaudio-libs.i686 pulseaudio-libs-glib2.i686 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686

this has now allowed LibreOffice to start.

This may be more of a packaging issue for Fedora than a Libreoffice problem.
