I could not agree more, and have issues with controls being imposed on users.

I have a good reason why I want to use Write (as opposed to Notepad) to open
xml files.

When using search and replace in Notepad, I am not told how many times a term
has been replaced, so do not know whether that particular file (a Formidable
Wordpress plugin form) has an error / typo.

As I have a physical disability affecting my keyboard accuracy, knowing that is
actually very important in terms of importing the form to Wordpress >
Formidable.

I do not see why the many volunteers at LibreOffice want to specifically
prevent the use of xml files in Write. It seems a very deliberate decision, but
what kind of discussions and reasoning would lead to that idea being actioned?

Its very odd.

So many applications and household appliance's firmware are having
functionality removed, I have raised the idea of a "UK Digital Damage" law. One
current example: FreeSat have removed channel changing / recording management
from their Android app, significantly impacting myself, and probably a few
thousand other disabled people.

Its time that companies in general think very differently about removing
functionality. The macOS scrollbars were probably the start of this trend.
