I am preparing an update to the XITS font with the requisite character sets for Adlam and N'ko but I was planning on releasing that as a separate opensource option for users to download. I believe this is the same strategy employed when Arabic support was added to Math. Most OS's (not 100% certain about Linux) ship with the Noto Adlam and N'ko fonts which can be used to display the variables and formulas.
