This is a bug unless the program alerts you to the issue; that would be another solution. For this to happen for no apparent reason is a bug; perhaps not in a coding sense but in a design sense. It should not be necessary to change from the default style in order to use a list. As this can be fixed I don't see why it shouldn't be really. Word does not do this as far as I know. I've never seen this in decades of word.
