FWIW... My usage of the AutoFilter's Search box is usually slightly different
than what you described.

After typing-in within AutoFilter's Search box, the list presented by
AutoFilter is already limited. You can then enable or disable the inclusion of
the items in the resulting list with the checkbox for each item, and the usage
of the upper checkboxes.

As for re-using AutoFilter and knowing which filters have been previously
applied on the whole set of columns, within AutoFilter you have "Filter by
Condition > Standard Filter..." which shows you the whole set of conditions.

I am mentioning these as a possible alternative procedure to what you described
regarding AutoFilter (i.e. "type-in and press Enter").

IIUC, in essence the request seems similar to "I want a faster mix of
AutoFilter and Standard Filter, without having to use those features".

At any rate, general performance should be considered.

Is this a _UX_ enhancement request?
