            Bug ID: 171615
Summary: Column chart: Mean Value Line disappears after
assigning/changing category range (date labels on X
                    axis)
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.2.2.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Calc
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
In LibreOffice Calc, a Mean Value Line in a 2D column chart behaves
inconsistently when the category range is assigned or changed afterwards.

This is especially noticeable when:

the X axis uses dates as category labels
the Y axis uses numeric values
a Mean Value Line is inserted first
the Categories range is then set or changed in Format → Data Ranges

After changing the category range, the Mean Value Line disappears or is no
longer shown.

>From a user perspective this is very unintuitive, because the chart still
appears to be the same chart, but the previously inserted Mean Value Line is
silently lost.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open LibreOffice Calc.
2. Enter sample data:
Column A: dates
Column B: numeric values
3.Select the data and create a 2D Column Chart.
4.Double-click the chart to enter chart edit mode.
5.Select the data series.
6.Insert Mean Value Line.
7.Open Format → Data Ranges.
8.Set or change the Categories range so that column A is used as the X-axis
category labels.
9.Close the dialog.

Actual Results:
The Mean Value Line disappears, is no longer visible, or appears to have been
removed after changing the category range.

Expected Results:
The Mean Value Line should remain present after assigning or changing the
category range.

If the category change internally rebuilds the data series, LibreOffice should
at least warn the user clearly instead of silently dropping the Mean Value
Line.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This feels like either a bug or at minimum a UX/design issue.
The behavior is much less intuitive than in an XY/Scatter chart.
A warning, preservation of the line, or automatic reattachment to the updated
data series would be preferable.
