What I describe in comment 0 is the real source of the problem; that's the bug. Solving this bug, the need for the request in tdf 153495 is lower. An additional negative consequence of deleting unused customized user-defined number formats is that the deletion is not always complete. After deleting those, I then find remnants / leftovers in the corresponding "styles.xml" file. The user-defined number formats that were deleted are not listed anymore, but remnants of them are "left behind" in styles.xml. Since I don't want to make a mistake with some manual edition, I leave them there, "lingering".
