Bug ID: 172284
Summary: Writer comment sidebar preview truncates annotation
text for selected hyperlink-containing text
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.8.1.1 release
Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
When creating a Writer comment/annotation on selected text that contains
hyperlinks, the comment sidebar preview can display truncated or inconsistent
text.
In my test document, comments attached to ordinary text display normally. A
newly created comment on pasted/unformatted text also displays normally.
However, a comment attached to the original hyperlink-containing selection
displays a shortened/truncated preview in the right comment sidebar.
The issue appears related to hyperlink formatting or stored annotation/anchor
metadata rather than the comment feature generally.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Writer 25.8.1.1.
2. Create or open a document containing text with one or more hyperlinks.
3. Select text that contains hyperlink formatting.
4. Right-click the selected text and insert a comment (annotation).
5. Observe the comment preview displayed in the comments sidebar.
6. Copy the same visible text.
7. Paste the copied text as unformatted text (Ctrl+Shift+V → Unformatted Text).
8. Select the pasted unformatted text.
9. Insert a new comment on the pasted text.
10. Compare the comment preview shown in the sidebar for both comments.
Actual Results:
The comment sidebar preview for the original hyperlink-containing selection is
truncated or displays inconsistently. The same visible text behaves normally
when pasted as unformatted text and commented again.
Expected Results:
The comment sidebar preview should display consistently for equivalent selected
text, regardless of whether the selected text contains hyperlink formatting or
was pasted as unformatted text.
Reproducible: Always
