Bug ID: 172299
Summary: Navigator - Update the selection based on current
sheet being viewed
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.2.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]

Description:
Calc - Sidebar - Navigator
I have made many suggestion posts for the "Navigator" sidebar.
My overall idea is to add features to the "Navigator" sidebar to make it
function more like a vertical version of the sheet tabs bar at the bottom of
Calc window.
The "Sheets" sections shows list of all the sheets within a file.
I would like the cursor/highlight to automatically move to sheet name that is
currently being viewed in the Calc main window pane.
Similar to how the "Sheet Tab Bar" at bottom of Calc window updates the tab
selection based on current sheet being viewed.
This suggestion would be very important for the vertical "Sheet Tab Bar"
concept I am looking for, but seems like it might be the most difficult to
achieve.
The reason for this is because "Navigator" also is used for things other then
the "Sheets" section. There are other categories below "Sheets".
The only solution I can think of at the moment has to do with the toolbar
button called "Toggle" which hides all of those items under the "Sheets"
section, making the "Navigator" pane just a list of sheets.
Maybe a new setting can be added that would make it so that when those other
items are "Toggled" off, a new "mode" can be activated that would allow this
"Sheets" list section to automatically highlight current sheet name.
For example if user used shortcuts for the following functions
To Next Sheet
To Previous Sheet
the cursor in the "Navigator" "Sheets section would automatically update,
selected that current sheet.
So both the "Sheet Tab Bar" and the "Navigator" would update while other is
being used.

SETTINGS DIALOG
I have many "Navigator" suggestions
Because there may be some users who prefer to keep current behaviors, I am
suggesting to make this a setting.
Which is why I am also suggesting adding a button in the "Navigator" toolbar
(with a gear icon), which would open up a setting dialog that would contain
settings for the "Navigator" sidebar.
(Because you are not allowed to edit posts)
As I make similar suggestion posts, I will link them in replies below if anyone
is interested.
