While I don't disagree with your line of thought, I can see two big issues with
this particular sort of enhancement for Calc:

1. It seems to be a primary goal of the software to be compatible with various
other spreadsheet software out there, whether that is good or bad for the user
who will never interact with it. Such a change would break that sort of
compatibility.

2. The Calc codebase is a huge and complex beast (in some cases, more complex
than necessary), and that sort of change would probably be much more easily
done by writing a new spreadsheet program from scratch, than modifying Calc to
do it.

In short, I just don't see this happening with this software. That's not to say
that it's impossible, but I think that it won't happen in Calc.
