notourbug - it is a known grievance with wayland that it doesn't allow windows
to place or group themselves.
Only very recently a method to do that was actually accepted in wayland, but it
will take a while until that is trickled down to new releases of compositor and
similar.

and various other media reporting about the difficulties of getting stuff like
that accepted into wayland.

So while upcoming versions of Gnome will support it, there was just no way to
