Bug ID: 172496
Summary: StartCenter Recent document view and filter
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.4.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: LibreOffice

Hi,
I see quite some request on the start center and recent document view, namely
bugs 169717, 171960, 171961
As a general matter people want to find back easily their docs, while I think
complex search out to be delegated to file explorers and not to LO.
Now, people rarely are single task, but work on the bizz & private
projects/activities.
Let's call them: bizz project 1, bizz project 2, etc; private project 1,
private project 2, etc.
and within a project you may have different types of documents (example: you're
preparing a presentation based on 2 spreadsheets(.xls, .ods) data and 3 text
docs(.odt,.rtf,.docx).
Therefore, one gets frustrated by the fact of filtering on text docs,
spreadsheet and so on, because, as said a project is a collection of recent
docs in different file types(text, spreadsheet,...) and encoding formats(.odt,
.rtf, .xls, .ppt, ...)
Normally, this is solved by having dedicated directories per projects.
So, I propose that LO adds a filter on recent files directories.
Aka if N recent files share a common parent folder of depth < 5, they are
regrouped within a project which name is their parent.
## figurative example of recent files:
For the sake of simplicity, ler's consider only the last 3 recent files(I think
LO does 25):
this/is/a/project on garden/vegetable garden.xlsx
this/is/a/project on garden/more/precise/growing tomatoes.odt
this/is/another/path/to/another/project on finance/financial statement 2026.ods
The first 2 files have common path "this/is/a/project on garden/" and they
would be regrouped under "project on garden" by order of recent access (note
that one could also decide alphabethically but I think it's too much)
