This would require changes to the ODF standard to preserve such programming language metadata. LibreOffice is not a code editor nor a Markdown editor, though. So if we stick to these principles, it would be a strange experience for the user to edit a highlighted block of code only for it to lose its highlighting in the edited parts. Dynamic highlighting was rejected in requests like bug 160362. Terms like "round-trip fidelity" in association with Markdown seem ill-fitting as Markdown is not really trying to be a proper document format, but just a helper for formatting.
