Bug ID: 172591
Summary: deb/rpm naming version convention
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Installation
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
When installing from official's site deb/rpm version, every binary (per
version) has its own version code in the name (26.2, 26.3...); this produce
that before installing a new version, the previous one has to be manually
removed. Even "links" in the bars for fast access stop to works cause they use
the previous name.
Linux distribution solved the issue removing it, so if LO will remove the
number we may encounter some trouble with distro's version.
Would be possible substitute the version with something like
"official"/"official-source"/"LOrelease"/etc ? Probably "official" isnt the
best cause otherwise, distro's versions may be seen as "not official", but even
something like "main-streamline" would be good.
Even only the main number release should be avoided cause we are actively
developing and mostly every year it changes.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install any version of LO
2. Trying to install a different version (without uninstalling the previous)
Actual Results:
Multiple version on the same machine
Expected Results:
Simple update via distro's package manager instead of uninstall manually the
previous one.
Reproducible: Always
