Simply wrap the upper and the lower text in "nitalic" formatting marks: {nitalic Apple} over {nitalic Mango} Menus or Sidebar panel within the formula editor gives you control over the spacing and sizing of the nodes making up the "formula" of text. The "Ruby" size text annotation, in LibreOffice from main menu Format -> Asian Phonetic Guide..., provides an alternative with centered text, above or below, to left or right--but no dividing bar for the effect. It can also be done as a draw object Textbox, or as FontWork graphic object just not as seamless or efficient as with the OLE sm formula. The ODF Paragraph objects do not really support this otherwise, not as char styling, nor as a running line of text.
