But I am not sure about dictionaries. For example, in this Help online, I found that: "Reset to factory settings If all else fails, you can reset your user profile to the factory default. The first option Reset settings and user customizations resets all configuration and UI changes, but keeps things like your personal dictionary and templates. The second option will reset your entire profile to the state it was in when you first installed LibreOffice." So, it seems thare are options that need to be saved (or created a backup) before installing a new version. New feature are added, so they need new interfaces/variables and so on.
