Not sure. We generally aim to be WYSIWYG, so it's defensible to change print
behavior to better match what we show on screen.

I don't think this bug would support other kinds of changes. Normally clipping
isn't needed, but the reproducer uses a negative after text indent to force the
text outside the cell. That seems like it would be rare enough that it's not
worth a lot of upset.
