Bug ID: 173031
Summary: Severe rendering slowdown and white line artifacts in
Writer with image-heavy ODT documents since 26.2
(Linux, GTK)
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.1.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Regression:
LibreOffice 25.x works correctly.
LibreOffice 26.2.x and 26.8 RC show severe rendering problems.
Environment:
- Linux Mint 22.3 MATE
- Reproduced on two different computers:
- Intel integrated graphics
- NVIDIA graphics
- Same behaviour with official TDF .deb packages and AppImage.
Problem:
When editing large Writer (.odt) documents containing many images:
- scrolling becomes very slow
- Writer becomes progressively sluggish
- white horizontal lines appear during screen redraw
- display corruption disappears only after another repaint
The documents themselves are not corrupted.
Tests performed:
- Skia disabled -> no change
- Intel and NVIDIA -> same result
- Official .deb and AppImage -> same result
- LibreOffice 25.x -> works correctly
- LibreOffice 26.2.x -> problem
- LibreOffice 26.8 RC -> same problem
This looks like a regression introduced in the 26.x rendering code.
If LibreOffice is started with:
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice
the rendering artifacts disappear, but another problem appears (menu bar
unusable or missing), therefore this is not a usable workaround.
Actual Results:
Very slow rendering and white line artifacts while editing image-heavy Writer
documents.
Expected Results:
Smooth scrolling and correct image rendering as in LibreOffice 25.x.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
