My solution was to remap my slash key to generate Solidus + Zero Width Space. When I don't want a line break after the slash (for something short like I/O or A/B, or when it's part of an Internet or Linux path), I just backspace over the Zero Width Space. PS: I'm still on Windows and use AutoHotkey scripts to do my keyboard remapping, among other things. This is convenient because the scripts can easily be exited, edited, and restarted (or not) mid-session.
