note that when saving to xls format (excel 2003 & earlier), there is no way to
preserve any additional columns, as Excel 2003 only supports 256 columns (see
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HP005199291.aspx
)

However LO should show a data-loss warning in this case.
