For that matter, as a user, when my caret before or after hyperlinked text, I
don't feel confident whether right-clicking the hyperlink will invoke context
menu for the hyprlink or for the "plain text" my caret is adjacent to 😊 

By having the text "locked" even seemingly obvious manipulations like
right-clicking the text or invoking Ctrl+k become confusing.
