Bug ID: 173294
Summary: Cursor movement from selected text on right arrow goes
one character too far
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Writer is the only software I know where using the keyboard to move right from
selected text positions the cursor past the character immediately right of the
selection, instead of moving it to the end of the selection (i.e. between what
was selected, and the character immediately to its right).
This trips me up over and over again, and has done for years.
Note that movement of the cursor when using the left arrow key to move out of
the selection works as expected: it positions the cursor at the edge of the
previously selected text, not one character left of that position.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Select some text.
2) Hit right arrow.
Observe that the cursor is one character farther to the right than expected,
not at the edge of the previously selected text.
Expected behaviour:
Should be the mirror image of what is done for the left arrow case.
I think this is a very long standing bug, not an enhancement request, but it
could be a bug in the specification?
