Description:
Most Windows apps nowadays support installing apps distributed via msi package
in User scope or System scope, that is, install app in %LocalAppData% or in
%ProgramFiles%.
The advantage of installing in %LocalAppData% is that the user has all the
benefits of an installed LibreOffice, but does not require Administrator
priviledges.
Thus, all Desktop icons, shortcuts in Start Menu, file associations, seamless
updating (via WinGet for example), user preferences will be stored as expected,
as opposed to a portable version where the program is repackaged in a
non-intrusive portable pack.
Another reason would be that some corporate equipment do not give admin rights
to employees to install things, and to open or work on some personal stuff,
they would not want to be locked into Microsoft/Google corporate ecosystem, but
would want to benefit for LO package being installed like any other normal
application, not like a portable separate pack.
Steps to Reproduce:
My proposal is to add a new screen during MSI installer, that will ask user
what installtion type does he want: Per user or Per system. See the attached
mockup screen.
Attached is another example from installing Vivaldi Web Browser, where the user
can choose between all 3 types in the installer: Per user, Per system (All
users) or Portable (Standalone)
Actual Results:
For the moment, the LO installed asks for Admin priviledges.
