            Bug ID: 173393
Summary: Calc: Cell background colors disappear when using GTK3
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 24.2.0.3 release
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Calc
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
The background color of cells is not displayed correctly in LibreOffice Calc
when using the GTK3 VCL backend.

I use cell background colors to visually differentiate and organize information
in my spreadsheets. This problem significantly affects my work.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start LibreOffice Calc normally.
2. Create a new spreadsheet.
3. Enter some text into a cell.
4. Select the cell.
5. Apply a background color using the toolbar.
6. Select another cell.

Actual result:

The background color may appear while the cell is selected, but it disappears
when I select another cell.

The same problem occurs when using Format > Cells > Background.

After saving and reopening the document normally, the background colors are no
longer visible.

Additional test:

I started LibreOffice Calc with the following command:

SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice --calc

With the "gen" VCL backend, the background colors work correctly and remain
visible when changing the selected cell.

When LibreOffice is started normally using GTK3, the problem occurs again.

The same problem was already present when I was using Ubuntu 24 LTS. I do not
know which LibreOffice version I was using at that time.

Expected result:

The selected background color should be applied to the cell, remain visible
when another cell is selected, and be preserved after saving and reopening the
document.

Environment:

LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 (X86_64)
Build ID: 620(Build:2)
Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS
VCL: gtk3
UI: fr-FR
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8)

Ubuntu package version: 4:26.2.5.2-0ubuntu0.26.04.1
Calc: threaded
CPU threads: 12

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Launch LibreOffice Calc normally.
2.Create a new spreadsheet.
3.Enter data into a cell.
4.Try to apply a background color.
5.The color does not work correctly.
6.Close Calc.
7.Launch Calc with:SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice --calc
8.Create a new spreadsheet and apply a background color.
9.The color works correctly with gen.
10.Close Calc, then reopen it normally with gtk3.
11.The colors are no longer visible in Calc.

Actual Results:
With the default GTK3 VCL backend, the background color of cells is not
displayed correctly.

The color may appear temporarily while the cell is selected, but disappears
when I select another cell.

After saving and reopening the document normally with GTK3, the cell background
colors are no longer visible.

The same operation works correctly when LibreOffice Calc is started with the
`gen` VCL backend.

Expected Results:
The selected background color should be applied to the cell and remain visible
when another cell is selected.

The background color should also be preserved after saving, closing, and
reopening the document.

The behavior should be the same when using the default GTK3 VCL backend as when
using the `gen` VCL backend.

Reproducible: Always

This is causing me significant difficulty in managing my customer orders.

This is causing me significant difficulty in managing my customer orders—
the colored cells allow me to distinguish between orders.

Note that changing the font color does work.

Can you fix this quickly?
And keep me updated?
Thanks.
