            Bug ID: 173404
Summary: Behavior of data range button in calc's navigator
panel is hard to understand, suggests named/database
                    range rather than seleciton.
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Documentation
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]

Description:
The data range button in calc’s navigator panel is said to do this:
"Specifies the current data range denoted by the position of the cell cursor."

This suggested to several people that this is about named (data) ranges.

However, it seems to be about a rectangular selection and not associated with
named ranges: What the button does it selects cells with content in a
rectangular selection; the selection ending where the area is entirely
surrounded by *empty* cells that touch each other to the left or top in a
rectangle.

Steps to Reproduce:
Open https://help.libreoffice.org/26.2/en-US/text/shared/01/navigator.html

Actual Results:
"Specifies the current data range denoted by the position of the cell cursor"

Expected Results:
Something "Selects all cells with content directly or indirectly adjecent to
the currently selected cell, creating a rectangular selection surrounded by
empty cells." This is probably best shown with example images.

I think "data range" should not be used (despite the button being called this)
since it is not about named ranges or database range but a selection (which
technically defines a data range ephemerally, but still...)

Reproducible: Always
