My issue is that I wanted to reduce my use of the sidebar, because I find it intrusive. But having used it for some earlier line thickness settings elsewhere in my presentation, there was no other straightforward way of replicating that line width precisely. So I found I had to go back to the sidebar. Softmaker Office manages this more elegantly. It has an "Object" ribbon which includes line thickness. The dropdown offer a number of presets, with a "More" option. The "More" option takes you to a screen that RETAINS THOSE PRESETS but also (a) offers many others and (b) allows fine control over line thickness. So consistency is retained whilst also offering flexibility. In principle, Impress could work in a similar way. All that would be required is: (a) to offer a button in the sidebar equivalent to "more", which takes the user directly to the "line" right-click screen; (b) to offer the same range of presets for line thickness in the "line" right-click screen as are offered in the sidebar. Presets are already offered for "style", colour, corner style and cap style; the only one missing is thickness. That would deliver consistency without (on the face of it) any requirement for major UI change. Anyway - it was just a suggestion.
