If it's the case why Inkscape, GIMP, VectorMotion provide stacks of filters? Stacks of filters actually don't harm the control you have over your shape style. It's an easier way to make complicated effects. Instead of duplicating shape a lot of times and then applying effects one-per-shape you can do it for the one. The issue arises when you need to change the shape form and keep effects.
