I first opened the source file and verified that everything was correct. I then opened the destination file and the conditional formatting was initially displayed correctly. After updating the external link, the issue occurred again exactly as described in the original report: the conditional formatting using the formula $Z4<>"S" was incorrectly applied to all affected cells. Opening the conditional formatting rule in Format → Conditional → Manage → Edit and confirming with OK without making any changes immediately restores the correct formatting.
