Description:
We are experiencing an ongoing compatibility issue with customer-supplied PDFs
generated by LibreOffice. These files can cause our Fiery XF print server to
crash or fail during processing and, in affected cases, cannot be printed
directly through the normal workflow.
Our current workaround is to open the affected PDF in Adobe Photoshop, which
rasterizes the page during import. If Photoshop can successfully open the file,
we then save it as a Photoshop-generated PDF and submit the newly created file
for printing. This process generally allows us to bypass the condition in the
original PDF that is causing the Fiery controller to fail.
However, this workaround has several limitations:
-Some affected LibreOffice PDFs cannot be opened successfully in Photoshop.
-The process is manual and time-consuming.
-Multi-page PDFs are particularly difficult because each page may need to be
imported and processed individually.
-The workaround increases support and production time for what would normally
be a direct-print workflow.
At the FedEx Office corporate support level, we receive multiple support
tickets each day involving LibreOffice-generated PDFs that cannot be processed
normally. Recently, we have observed a noticeable increase in the frequency of
these incidents.
Given the recurring nature of the issue and the recent increase in ticket
volume, we would like to determine whether there is a specific PDF object,
rendering construct, embedded resource, or other compatibility issue within
LibreOffice-generated PDFs that is triggering the Fiery failures. Identifying
the underlying cause could potentially allow us to develop a more scalable
remediation method rather than relying on manual rasterization through
Photoshop.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open the LibreOffice-generated PDF in Acrobat
2. Print to a Fiery XF print controller
3.Crashes the server and requires a full reboot
4. Then use PhotoShot to rasterize the PDF for printing
Actual Results:
Fiery XF controllers crash when processing any LibreOffice -generated PDF. The
Fiery XF controller has to be rebooted to continue printing anything else.
Expected Results:
Successfully print a LibreOffice-generated PDF.
