These characters [en dash (–) and the em dash (—)] are replaced by blank space
unless they happen to be contained within a Section.
Also ½ is completely mangled on translation to pdf document
Since these characters are automatic replacements during typing, I would check
all auto-generated characters for proper translation to pdf
