Bug ID: 173780
Summary: PDF/UA: text of a decorative text box, table or group
in Impress is neither tagged nor an artifact
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: accessibility
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Printing and PDF export

A text box and a decorative text box
Steps:
1. Open attachment deco-text.fodp: a text box and a text box marked Decorative
(no line, no fill).
2. File > Export as PDF, enable Universal Accessibility (PDF/UA).
3. Check the PDF with veraPDF (verapdf -f ua1), or look at the page content
stream.
Actual:
veraPDF fails PDF/UA-1 rule 7.1-3 ("Content shall be marked as Artifact or
tagged as real content"). The decorative shape has no structure element, as
intended, but its text is not in /Artifact marked content either: it is in no
marked content at all. The same happens for a decorative table and for a
decorative group with a text box. A decorative image, line or chart comes out
as /Artifact and passes.
A text box with a line or fill hides the bug: the artifact opened for the
outline is still open when the text is drawn.
Expected:
The text of a decorative shape is in /Artifact marked content, like a
decorative image.
The text begins a Paragraph structure element inside the shape's
NonStructElement. PDFWriterImpl::beginStructureElementMCSeq opens /Artifact
only when the current element itself is the NonStructElement, so for the
Paragraph it opens nothing. Commit c3cae7d4827a describes the same: "a
Paragraph begun inside an artifact opens no marked content at all".
Also on master 27.2.0.0.alpha0+ (8b00664342af), macOS.
