--- Comment #3 from Regina Henschel <[email protected]> ---
The currently implementation depends heavily on the geometry of predefined
shapes. If the text area were changed, such shape would no longer belong to the
set of predefined shapes. Instead it would be of type "non-primitive" in ODF
and would use the custGeom instead of prstGeom in OOXML. Thus changing the size
of the text area is a "Wontfix" for me.

I see several ways to solve the problem for you:
(1) Do not write the text into the shape itself, but write it into a text box
and bundle text box and shape into a group.
(2) Set the distances in Format > Text Attributes to a negative values. That
allows the text do be larger than the text area size. However, bug 96066 is
still not solved. Negative values work for LibreOffice and related
applications, but would need an own namespace to be valid ODF.
(3) Create your own kind of shape with larger text area using a custGeom or a
"non-primitive". In case you want to go that way but do not know how to do it,
please ask for assistance on https://ask.libreoffice.org/c/english/5.
(4) You might as well consider to use a total different kind of shape, a curve
or a legacy oval, for example. However, those shapes do not have an automatic
line wrap, but you need to enter line breaks manually.
