Bug ID: 173899
Summary: Enhancement request: More direct menu entry for
setting language for spell checking
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: LibreOffice
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Currently, it can be hard to find the setting for defining the language for
spell checking. It is suggested to add more direct access to these settings.
The language setting is currently to be found as part of the Font dialog. This
is not especially logical, as the choice of language for spell checking is
(broadly speaking) independent of the choice of font.
Steps to Reproduce:
In Writer, the langage for spell checking is defined under the menu Format >
Character > Font. In the tabbed view, there does not appear to be a tab button
(?), but the the option can be found through the menu Home > Character > Font.
Similarly in Calc and Impress, the language setting is under Format > Cells >
Font.
Actual Results:
Once the Font dialog is open, the language can be set. But it is not logical
place to search for the language setting.
Expected Results:
It is suggested to add a more direct access to the language setting:
Menu: Format > Language
Tabbed view: In tab "Review", add "Language" to the group for spell checking.
If space in the UI is an issue, the button for "Spelling" may be reduced to
half height, using the other half for "Language".
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
A simple solution would be to have the new menu/button as just a quick way to
the current Font dialog. Alternatively, a new Language dialog could be
designed. In the latter case, the design of the new dialog should be thought
out (what other options would naturally be placed here?).
