Bug ID: 173943
Summary: WritingTool hangs when using a non-available language
and clicking Previous Error
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.1.1 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
While trying to reproduce Bug #159643, I found a hang in LibreOffice Writer
when using the WritingTool extension.
Basically, it happens when a non-available language is set (like in the file
that triggered the old aforementioned bug) and you click on "Previous Error" in
the WritingTool side bar when being in some specific parts of the text (no idea
why).
When this happens, LibreOffice hangs and takes up to 5 GB of RAM.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Execute `libreoffice --safe-mode` in a terminal and click on "Continue in
Troubleshoot Mode"
2. Click on "Create:" > "Writer Document"
3. Write "asd"
4. Select "asd" with double click
5. In the bottom status bar click on "Text Language" section
6. Select "More..."
7. In the "Language:" box select a language that is not present on your system,
for example Latin
8. Click at the end of the "asd" word
9. Open the WritingTool extension side bar
10. Click on "Previous Error"
Actual Results:
The software hangs and goes up to 5 GB of used RAM, as it can be seen by the
`ps u` output:
```
ps u | grep libre
user 12027 0.0 0.0 161316 7828 pts/0 Sl+ 16:56 0:00
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash --safe-mode
user 12063 170 63.0 10417464 5043136 pts/0 Rl+ 16:56 30:53
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin --safe-mode --splash-pipe=5
```
Expected Results:
A "WritingTool check is completed" dialog should appear, as when you do the
above steps setting the language before writing (doing steps 5-7 before steps
3-4).
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
Version: 26.8.1.1 (X86_64)

The output in the terminal seems completely irrelevant, as it all appears
before doing any of the critical steps. Still, here it is:
```
