            Bug ID: 173963
Summary: [Feature request] PDF exports should embed page
                    numbers in the PDF
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.2.5.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
Currently, LibreOffice Writer exports PDF without embedding any page number in
the file. This creates pagination problems when one uses page breaks (e.g.
styles that insert a page break and force a Right Page and will insert a blank
Left Page if the previous page is a Right Page).

When using page breaks, in Writer, the page numbers stay correct. They display
in the bottom status bar, are accessible via the "Go to page" function, and
they will be inserted in the "Page" field (typically in the Footer).
However, in Normal view mode, the blank pages are not rendered as such, but
only hinted to as dotted lines (page breaks) between normal pages.

When one exports the document as PDF, those blank pages are not exported by
default. This results in an incorrect pagination of the document: PDF readers
don’t see non-exported pages. They will auto-paginate. If, for instance, the
document has a Title page, then a blank page, then a page 3 with the content
beginning there, the PDF will have the Title page as page 1, then the content
page as page 2. The real (blank) page 2 will be gone.

The current solution to this is to check the option "Export automatically
inserted blank pages". This will result in a correct pagination, at the cost of
useless blank pages in the document. It is arguably the better solution to
ensure stability. It results, however, in a very ugly digital document in the
PDF format.
(Embedded) page numbers are an inherent feature of PDF. Having an option to
include those and align them with the numbers displayed in Writer should be
considered.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a document with automatically inserted blank pages
2. Insert page numbers in the Footer.
3. Export it as PDF (version 1.3 and up)

Actual Results:
PDF pagination is not aligned with the footer.

Expected Results:
PDF pagination should be aligned with the footer (at least in value, if
styles—e.g. Roman/Arab numerals—cannot be implemented).

Reproducible: Always

Additional Info:
This is actually a duplicate of bug 98219, which I just found out. I don’t know
if it’s correct etiquette to post here anyway. Pardon me if it’s not, but the
bug report is quite old, and no answer have been provided.
