Bug ID: 173978
Summary: FILEOPEN DOCX: italic text at the end of a line wraps
earlier with compatibilityMode 15 than with 14
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.8.5.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
tdf#124770 removed the extra italic line-end reserve for Word documents by
tying it to TabOverMargin. The DOCX import now enables TabOverMargin only up to
compatibilityMode 14 (see tdf#142404), so the reserve applies again to
compatibilityMode 15 files. A line that ends in italic text then wraps earlier
than the same line in a mode 14 file.
I have no Word installation, so I could not confirm what Word 2013+ does with
the mode 15 file. The rationale in tdf#124770 (Word uses the advance width
without an extra italic reserve) suggests it keeps the line unbroken, but the
original attachment there uses compatibilityMode 14.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the attached italic-mode15.docx. The first paragraph is italic "HHH" in
20 pt Liberation Serif in a 43.35 pt wide text area; the second paragraph is
the same text upright.
2. Open the attached italic-mode14.docx. It differs only in w:compatSetting
compatibilityMode (14 instead of 15).
Actual Results:
compatibilityMode 15: the italic paragraph wraps as "HH" / "H".
compatibilityMode 14: the italic paragraph stays on one line.
The upright paragraph is one line in both files.
Expected Results:
If Word 2013+ keeps the italic line on one line in the mode 15 file (please
confirm), Writer should do the same.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
LibreOffice 25.8.5.2 (build 580), x86_64, Linux.
SwTextGuess::Guess (sw/source/core/text/guess.cxx) subtracts nPorHeight / 12
for italic text at the line end unless DocumentSettingId::TAB_OVER_MARGIN is
set. SettingsTable::ApplyProperties
(sw/source/writerfilter/dmapper/SettingsTable.cxx) enables TabOverMargin only
for compatibilityMode <= 14. Both conditions are unchanged in current master.
