Bug ID: 174013
Summary: XLSX: Optimal row height incorrectly calculated with
large defaultRowHeight
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.6.3 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Calc calculates excessively large row heights when opening an XLSX with a large
worksheet-level defaultRowHeight, even when using Optimal Row Height.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the attached original XLSX in Calc.
2. Select the rows and apply Optimal Row Height (extra height: 0).
3. Observe that row heights are much too large.
4. Open the patched XLSX and repeat.
Actual Results:
In the original file, Optimal Row Height produces a fixed row height,
excessively tall, not sensitive to actual contents.
Expected Results:
Row heights should fit their contents, as they do in Excel and when the file is
saved and reopened as ODS.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
I asked an LLM to help identify the issue.
It produced the patched document and provided the following information.
Investigation
The original xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml contains:
<sheetFormatPr defaultRowHeight="99.75" customHeight="true" .../>
Controlled tests, changing only these attributes:
defaultRowHeight | customHeight | Result
99.75 | true | Incorrect
15 | false | Correct
15 | true | Correct
99.75 | false | Incorrect
Changing only defaultRowHeight from 99.75 to 15 fixes Optimal Row Height.
Changing customHeight alone does not.
The problem also reappears when the correctly behaving ODS is exported to XLSX
and reopened in Calc.
Conclusion
The XLSX row-height calculation appears to be incorrectly influenced by the
worksheet’s stored default row height, even when explicitly requesting Optimal
Row Height.
