Bug ID: 174061
Summary: Duplicate Function names Start and End for two
different UNO commands
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.1.1 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
I wanted to bind the recently-added commands to Align Start and Align End to
shortcut keys. Searching Functions for "Align" showed nothing. Search Functions
for "Start" and "End" show two functions with the label Start and two with the
label End.
Hovering over one shows: Command: .uno:CommonAlignStart. Tooltip: Start.
Hovering over the other shows: Command: .uno:StartPara. Tooltip: Align Start.
This is extremely confusing on at least three levels:
1) Align never shows up at all in searching the function list, even though the
tooltip for the new Align Start/End has the word Align in it.
2) Why does the command that contains the word Align not have Align in the
tooltip, while the one that doesn't have the word Align in the command does
have it in the tooltip?
3) What is the difference between these two commands?
It seems obvious to me that there should not be two identically-named functions
in the same list. It also seems obvious that the user should be given more
information about what each command does, individually. And it finally seems
obvious that the command name should match the tool tip!
This is related to but not identical with
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=169741. That bug is about
potentially duplicative uno commands. This bug is about having identical
function names referring to different commands, that the command names do not
match the tooltip, and that the difference between them is not identifiable by
the user.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Tools | Customize | Keyboard.
2. Search Functions for Align. Nothing shows up.
3. Search Functions for Start and End. See that there are two of each one,
referring to different commands.
Actual Results:
No match for align; multiple matches for Start and End.
Expected Results:
A function named Align Start and Align End; not having multiple identical
function names.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
