Bug ID: 174265
Summary: Calc: XLOOKUP/XMATCH binary search returns wrong
results for a calculated numeric array
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.8.0.3 release
Hardware: ARM
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Multiplying a sorted search range by 1 changes the results of ascending binary
search. The attached five-row workbook includes correct direct-range controls
and native array formulas.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open binary-search-value-array.xlsx.
2. Choose Data > Calculate > Recalculate Hard.
3. Compare E2:E6 with C2:C6, and H2:H6 with F2:F6.
Actual Results:
E2:E6: 9, 9, 9, 5, #N/A.
H2:H6: 5, 5, 5, 3, #N/A.
Direct-range controls in D and G are correct.
Expected Results:
E2:E6: 1, 1, 5, 5, 9.
H2:H6: 1, 1, 3, 3, 5.
Multiplication by 1 preserves the numeric values and ascending order.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Fails on macOS 27.0.1 ARM64 in 24.8.0.3, 24.8.7.2, 26.8.0.3 and
27.2.0.0.alpha0+ master 7528c0d40601 (2026-10-31). The 24.8 builds give
different incorrect values. Both threading settings fail; hard recalculation
does not help. No passing version found; Linux untested.
Checked bug 161592: active, closely related lookup failures; exact duplication
unconfirmed. Discuss this attachment there before filing separately. Also
checked fixed bugs 163821 (result matrix) and 163736 (cache search mode); this
example still fails after those fixes.
