An example .AVIF file

Image files in .AVIF format are sometimes encountered (e.g. on webpages) and
need to be copied into a Writer document. There are three ways a user is likely
to do this, and they behave differently by neither method works.

Case 1) Copy selected contents of a webpage into a Writer document, and the
content includes an .AVIF image. In this case, Writer recognizes that there is
an image and that it cannot handle the format, so Writer places a placeholder
image (which if put in a graphics progam is a rectangle with a red X from its
corners).

Case 2) The user saves a copy the .AVIF image, locates it in a file manager,
and tries to copy/paste it into an open Writer document. In this case, Writer
opens an Insert Section pop-up. In other words, the file is not recognized as
being an image. Further, if the user clicks Insert on that popup, binary data
is pasted into Writer, and (at least when I tried with my sample image), Writer
crashes.

Case 3) The user tries to paste the .AVIf file into a Writer document by using
Insert > Image from the Writer toolbar. This gives "Image filter not found,"
but does not suggest where a filter (if any) for the .AVIF format might be
found.

You can replicate Cases 2 & 3 by using the attached .AVIF file. It was obtained
from this URL:

You can replicate Case 1 by opening that URL and: 1) Open the above URL and
copy /paste from the title to the end of the story into Writer. 2) This will
put you at the end of the story, in Writer. Scroll up to the first image
placeholder you encounter. This is where Writer would put the actual image, if
it had a "filter" for doing so.

EXPECTED RESULTS: 1) Writer should show an actual image when copying and
pasting content that includes it, into a document. 2) When trying to place an
.AVIF image file into a document by either a copy/paste from a file manager or
by using Writer's Insert > Image method, that should work.

To replicate: 1) Copy the contend
