Bug ID: 174353
Summary: Writer hangs on justified RTL paragraph with ornate
parentheses, brackets and Arabic-Indic digits
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.2.7.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: LibreOffice
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
The sandbox’s LibreOffice 24.2.7 hangs forever (100% CPU, no error) when
converting an Arabic RTL .docx to PDF if a table-cell paragraph is justified
(w:jc="both") and contains ornate Quranic parentheses ﴿ ﴾ plus [ ] plus
Arabic-Indic digits. Changing both to right converts in 2 seconds. The attached
one-row docx reproduces it. It repeatedly wastes time on Arabic academic work;
please fix it or ship a newer LibreOffice.
Actual Results:
When converting the attached file (one-row .docx, Arabic RTL, justified
paragraph in a table cell) to PDF with LibreOffice 24.2.7.2, the process never
finishes: it stays at 100% CPU for more than 3 minutes (I stopped it after the
timeout) and produces no PDF and no error message.
Replacing w:jc="both" with w:jc="right" in the same file makes the conversion
finish in about 2 seconds.
Expected Results:
The conversion should finish normally and produce a PDF, the same as it does
when the paragraph is right-aligned or not justified.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Environment: Linux (headless sandbox), LibreOffice 24.2.7.2 (Build 420,
Build:2), 4 CPU, 8 GB RAM.
Fonts: the default Arabic font was not installed, so I tested with Amiri 1.000
mapped to "Traditional Arabic"; the hang still occurred.
Command: soffice --headless --convert-to pdf <file>.docx
Trigger (bisected): a justified (w:jc="both") paragraph inside a table cell
that contains all three of: ornate Quranic parentheses ﴿ ﴾, square brackets [
], and Arabic-Indic digits. Removing any one of these, or setting the paragraph
to right-aligned, makes the conversion finish.
Other justify values (lowKashida, mediumKashida, highKashida, thaiDistribute)
also convert without hanging; "distribute" and "both" hang.
Attached: a one-row reproducer (m_onerow.docx).
