The user can set the icon size to large, so where is the problem ? If we really want to have an OSX-like application which respects Apple's UI and HMI guidelines, then it is not just setting the default to large on icon sets which look nothing like the rest of mainstream OSX applications which is going to change that IMHO, but hey, I'm not a coder ;-) Until such time as one or more OSX UI coder(s) step(s) forward to deal with the (very significant recoding) issue, nothing is going to change, LO will continue to look either like a GTK refugee or a Gnome 3 application ;-) It is true though, that small icon set defaults on OSX look terrible on todays larger screens...
