OpenOffice was NOT configured to be the default for any file types. I uninstalled OpenOffice and installed LibO 3.4.4. This set the default association for .doc and .oxt to LibreOffice and nothing else. The remaining files types are still pointing to Microsoft Office. I don't recall being asked by the LibO installer to do *any* file association nor ask if I wanted it to be my default office document software.
