I think I'm getting this sorted, the little "u" isn't a bug at all but it's waiting for me to follow up with a unicode sequence. Possibly this is happening because Mageia put out an X11 update at the same time (?). I wish I knew what activated this new behaviour. It's also strange I'm only seeing it in LibO.... Anyway, I'm marking this bug resolved.
