Sorry to say that but this is uber wrong behavior. When you edit a text or a
presentation, 99.999% of the time, when you click an hyperlink (simple left
click) you expect to edit the hyperlink, not visit the website or document
linked (thus loosing you editing context).

I would suggest : 

left click : select hyperlink
right click : context menu allowing to edit hyperlink
ctrl + click : visit the damn document / link

Anything else is insane and is driving people nuts (for long I expect) 

For a simple and expected behavior, look at what ckeditor does for example.
