Using
A3: a\(

is a possible workaround.

I haven't found documentation stating any limitation to the characters that can
be used in VLOOKUP(), whether in the criteria or in the range. So I assume that
using "(" should in theory be possible.

The same behavior remains in LO 4.1.3.2.

Thus, I am changing the bug status to NEW.

Thanks for reporting.
